The primary purpose of DCDD is to promote the welfare, development, and education of infants, toddlers, children and youth with communicative disabilities or who are deaf or hard of hearing. The Committee on Speech and Language Learning Disabilities in Children supports this work through its focus on the language, literacy, and learning needs of children across the age span who have speech, language, and learning disabilities.
Spotlight on Adolescent Literacy
Nearly 100 educational practitioners, policy makers, researchers, higher education representatives, parents, and the media gathered on June 5, 2009 for the purpose of sharing timely information, cross-stakeholder collaboration, and dissemination of the National Joint Committee on Learning Disabilities' (NJCLD) most recent report, "Adolescent Literacy and Older Students with Learning Disabilities." Presentations and panel discussions focused on research, practice, and systems change in the area of adolescent literacy. For a complete summary of the symposium proceedings, PowerPoint presentations, and additional related resources, visit the NJCLD's website at www.ldonline.org/njcld. DCDD is one of the 13 member organizations of the NJCLD.
